What color is the discharge? She could have pyometra. If she's in good health other wise there in no reason she shouldnt be spayed.
Unaltered pets develope other health problems that could have been avoided had they been spayed. For example mammary tumors, pyometra and if that's what she's got they should spay her. If your vet still says no ( find another vet) she's not too old to be spayed, just have them do pre-aneasthetic blood work first. And if she needs dentistry they should do that at the same time.
