He is telling you that in case it is a cyst. A cyst is a FLUID-filled sac. If it is a cyst, the heat can cause it to enlarge, "bring it to a head" and possibly pop to either release teh fluid outside or sometimes under the skin. If it is a tumor, the heat will do nothing to change. Remember though -- most tumors are benign. Some are cancer. If it is a fatty tumor (lipoma), then it is not a cyst but still benign.
There are also tumors that are made up of blood vessels and many other varieties that are not cancer. So, do not be afraid of the word tumor.
