Sydney didn't enjoy being petted and cuddled until we got her spayed. Then it was an almost imediate change. During her recovery she wanted to be held because she was in pain...and that just never stopped. Now she is such a little cuddle-bug. I can put her to sleep by rubbing her tummy and chest.
I'm sure it will come with time.
