And stay close but not right on top of her. Goldens are bigger, which I bred. The whelping boxes are usually 4 by 4 feet or 5 x 5. Once I got in the whelping box with my pillow. Kinda sat up but put my head back on the pillow. My Golden put her head on my lap. A couple hours went by. I said shoot, I'm getting something to eat. Went in the kitchen, ate, came back and she had 2 pups already. I decided then and there to let her be the den Mommy. I stayed close and peeked but that was all I did. Nature kicks in and they know what to do ...most of the time. Just make sure she breaks the sacs as soon as the puppy decides to pop out. |
