Yes, the bristle brush is different than a pin brush. It is a lot of personal preference. One of the professional breeders who also grooms here says she never uses the pin brushes. I found the Madan pin brush to be good for going through simple tangles easily. Some prefer the Chris Crhistensen wood pin brush. I also use a stiff bristle brush because I think they distribute the oils on the hair better to bring up a beatiful shine. So, eventually you might want to try them all too. I use two brushes (bristle and pin) and two combs (one combination fine/medium tooth and one flea comb for the face). What you have is fine.
