Sorry the toy idea wouldn't work. Back to square one..... but since they have lived next to you for that long, maybe you can trust them and be honest about any reprehension you might have. (i.e. not wanting others to see and think it was okay for just anyone to feed him at the fence).
I have to smile everytime I see one of your posts. Always makes me think of a dogbert cartoon and they crack me up. You could write a psychology course with a year's worth of those comic strips! They hit every coworker I ever had right on the nailhead!
