We allow the little ones on the furniture by "invitation only" where we will pick them up to get up on/off of the couch to snuggle. For the Dobe, he gets a nice comfy doggie couch that he doesnt have to share with anyone--I think he prefers it that way.
This sites a bit pricey but it gives you an idea of the doggy luxuries out there (not to mention saves your couches from the assault of saliva, hair, mud and all other things dog
