No, the patella can not be treated with the supplement. However, it does help with strenghening the cartilage and the chondrotin can help lubricate the joints. If you do take him into the vet's and he suggests surgery, get a second oppinion. Ask what grade level the LP is at? While I have a great respect for vets, LP surgery happens to be the surgery of choice right now and it doesn't always work. If surgery is the only option, it should be done by an orthipedic surgeon.
