The dew claw is that extra claw a dog may or may not have when born. The reason it is removed is because it just kind of hangs, there is no movement in it. The nail grows on it and if the nail has not been trimmed short , it can easily get caught up in something such as the carpet or on a knitted sweater, blanket, etc., and be very painful. |
