How often you take them really depends on your preference or need. If you plan to keep her in coat...the rest is "maintenance". Shaving ears, sanitary shave, trimming the hair from paw pads and trimming nails are all easily done at home. If you have plan to keep her hair cut...depending on the cut...probably every 6-8 weeks. Unless her coat is silky...you should be brushing her more often than every few days...a matted coat is the reason many of them get shaved. Groomers are not going to brush and comb out your dog.

Get her used to having her hair up in grooming bands without a bow. Those are what keeps the hair up...not the bands of a bow. When you're ready to try bows...put in a grooming band then the bow. The bow band goes underneath the grooming band and helps keep it in place.
