I always shave belly hair and trim the beard. I have had puppies to get tangled in the beard and the side hair. I had one I found being dragged allover the pen at three days old because it was in mama's chin hair. I had another nearly strange tangled in the side hair. Both pups were found in time but it was a lesson learned.
