There are still many commercial breeders registered with the AKC, as pointed out many time before, the AKC isn't perfect, there are plenty of bad breeders registered with them. Unless a breeder is breaking state law, the AKC can do nothing to shut them down. The AKC in itself is neither good nor bad, it is the only "registry" that actually requires proof of parentage, so that makes it more reliable than any others, but it doesn't guarantee that the breeders are good. I hope that more pet owners will register their AKC eligible pets and become more actively involved in the AKC, and support them in their efforts of eliminating bad and inhumane breeding practices.
