I was scheduled to bring my Yorkie puppy home tomorrow (@ 8 weeks old). Called our breeder today and she says Callie~Lou is not eating and drinking on her own as well as the others yet and needs a little more time before going to her new home. I've read that Yorkies shouldn't come home until they are at least 12 wks. old...yet I have friends who have gotten them at six weeks and some even younger (though I do agree anything younger than six wks. is entirely too young). Should I be worried about my puppy? She is the smallest of the litter...the "runt", if you will. Could that be the problem? She has been to the vet and has checked out fine. I have visited her several times and she is VERY energetic~...her hair is getting wavier and 'fuzzier'...she is as cute as a button, but I admit she is very tiny...(not sure of her exact weight right now) but my breeder estimates she will be 31/2 to 4lbs adult weight. Should I be worried....or just more patient?
