yes, you do and it kinda fades to not so strong. But the one thing I like is that if they do go out...like mine will lay in the lake sometimes, they never smell like lake... that shampoo smell will come back out as they dry. This is a plus for me!! It takes over a week before they lose the shampoo smell, but it does fade, or I get used to it. I just smell it when I am hugging on them.
