Mine ignore them, but I've talk to some people who say it's great fun and even good exercise for the dogs when done outdoors.

There was some discussion on this either here or elsewhere a while back, and some people say it can be dangerous, depending on the breed and the dog's personality. They can develop an obsessive-compulsiveness because of it.
