Congradulations on your new puppy
how old is he? And how long is he left alone during the day?
my concern is that he is not getting enough human contact , and when you guys are not home he is sleeping all the time. When your home he wants to be with you, and then, at night, when you guys are very tired from a long day, it's bedtime for the humans, however for the puppy, he still wants to have attention and spend more time with you. That is just my opinion. When they are only puppies , they need so much attention and hands on care to feel bonded and secure.
Is there anyway anyone could come home during lunch hr. to spen time with the puppy? He might just be lonely and need more attention, that is why he's whining and upset.
Having something with your scent is comforting to him. However, human contact is what he needs most of all. As much as possible.
