Great advice! Thank you so much! I think I'll try the coffee beans suggestion today! I don't want to clean off baking soda and charcoal will rub off black tar, wouldn't it? Or they are meant to be kept somehow separate from the fabric? But I think coffee beans would be safer and smell prettier in the end. Thanks, TeresaM!
