Some friends had this happen recently. Their camera/equipment was left in the trunk of the cab. They called the cab company and let the hotel where they were staying know since they had just been dropped off. The hotel said it wasn't their problem even though their doorman helped unload the trunk. The cab co said it wasn't there. He has expensive camera equipment and was getting nowhere till he got livid with the hotel AND the cab company, then his camera and equipment was returned.
