I brought Oliver home about 3 weeks ago, and I adore him but he cries horribly whenever I leave. Everyone keeps telling me that this is a phase and it will go away, but surely there is something we can do! It doesn’t matter if he is in the crate or if he has free roam of the house or if he’s just locked in the bedroom. Even if I close the bathroom door to shower he goes nuts scratching the door/carpet and screams L He has never been destructive, but it’s such a terrible scream. I’ve done everything – bought kong toys (that he only gets when I leave) and I gave him some old clothes for the scent. At night he sleeps in his bed beside my bed, I don’t let him sleep with me unless it’s a nap. I’m concerned obviously because it’s heartbreaking, but also because I live in an apartment complex and I don’t want anyone to call our landlords and complain. He’s 9 months old, and he is only crated 8 hours a day with a 30 minute break (I go home for lunch). I know there are scent things you can plug into the walls (I’m not sure of the exact name) but there $40+ and I’ve heard they don’t do anything… Any ideas?!?!?!?
