My first yorkie was 3wks short of 15 yrs. when I lost her from kidney's. I had a Westie that got a uterine infection and had to have emergency surgery on Thanksgiving Day, that was a long while ago, but because I didn't let her have a litter, and I hadn't spay her she got the infection. It was my first dog and I had her Mother,but I didn't know this could happen,now I am very well aware of it. My yorkie was spayed at 7months she is 21months old and havn't had any problems, she is a very healthy,happy little girl.
