When I first started showing yorkies I was shocked a few times when breeders would walk up at a show and just start faulting my dog without me even asking. In the beginning it hurt but when I think about it I know they were just being honest and trying to educate me about yorkies. Of course the first puppy I showed was a beautiful little soft coated bitch so I soon learned that a proper silk coat is needed in the show ring if you ever want to win. She got retired really quick. Everyone at the shows has been really nice to me and very helpful and I have learned a lot in the last 3 years. I just wish I could go to more shows.
To the OP, I know that people like to 'talk' about the competition, it is just human nature. I have learned that there is no perfect yorkie, they all have faults. Once you start watching the dogs you will start seeing the faults in the other dogs too and perhaps you might want to talk to a friend about what you have noticed or what your evaluation of a particular dog is. People are not doing it to be mean but they are just stating their opinion. The show judge for that day is the only one who's opinion really matters. Just go to the show and have a good time.
Donna, I must say you have always been nice to me and very helpful. |
Thank you Barbara LOL...I try and be nice and helpful most of the time but sometimes I just can't contain myself but I am learning to keep my mouth shut LOL...especially to some LOL...
I learned from a good friend of mine when you ask for my opinion you better get ready for it because I will be brutally honest LOL...it's a fault of mine to be blunt but oh well at least ya know where ya stand with me LOL...
Again, it's been said many times you really have to have thick skin in any competition whether it be dogs, horses or any other sport actually! If you love it enough you deal with it
