Default A scare during spay surgery...

When I took Lola in for her spay surgery, she had a reaction to the induction drug (a barbituate)... her heart rate fell really fast so they didn't perform the surgery. The vet said that if she'd had a broken leg, for example, he would have continued, but since it was an elective surgery he didn't want to take the chance that she wouldn't pull through. They did all the pre-op bloodwork and everything came back fine, so apparently she just doesn't tolerate barbituates well. I am scared silly to try the surgery again (with a different type of induction drug), even though the vet said that this type of reaction is not uncommon in small dogs (she's only 2.5 pounds).

I just wondered, has anyone else had this problem or heard of someone who has? Do you think that the risks of the surgery outweight the risks of not having her spayed (pregnancy, multiple cancers, etc.)?
