Latest - just back from town and visit to Kilo...
Jamie and I went to see him this am and boy oh boy, Dr. Paco just RADIATES confidence. Incredible bedside manner. Late last night he tried checking Kilo to see what was going on but Kilo was in too much pain and wouldn't let him mess with his belly, so very early this am (before the office opened) he took X-rays of Kilo but found nothing so arranged for an ultrasound tech to come. He also was able to palpate something in his belly that should not have been there - while we were in the office this am, he showed me by placing my fingers on it. So it seems he was suspecting his initial diagnosis of bacterial infection was wrong and he was following up with figuring out what it could be.
We were there from 10:30 to 11ish and held Kilo (trembling a LOT) and Dr. Paco said that early this am he was able to palpate something wrong in Kilo's belly. He's suspecting some blockage - either a foreign object or his intestines doubled up. He wants an ultrasound but if the tech doesn't get to the office by 12:30, Dr. Paco will operate to see what he can find. That's where we are now.
I'm feeling very confident with Dr. Paco - he showed me (without my even asking - like he read my mind) that Kilo is not dehydrated but because of pending surgery he wants him NPO. I don't know exactly what he has given him or what, but I do know that I very much trust him - he was with Kilo last night, late last night and very early this am, all outside normal operating hours and Dr. Paco has a VERY pregnant wife and 2 little boys who I imagine would consume his time outside office hours.
It was funny this am when I called in, the word for license plate and x-ray is the same (placa) and I couldn't figure out WHAT the receptionist was talking about until I figured out she was saying "x-ray" and not "license plate". |
