As has been said, Yorkies are very social dogs and your puppy will want to be with you all the time. But if you can't be watching him closely then a small area that is safe for him is the best thing for him. If he's going to be left on his own for several hours, then a crate may not be the best option. An ex-pen, specially designed for dogs, is a great, safe option.
