Most puppies get at least one distemper vaccines from the breed. are you sure he didn't get one?
If your puppy is sick or was just sick (since he did spend the night at the vet i'm going to assume he's not 100%) he shouldn't be getting a vaccine just yet. His immune system isn't back to normal yet and the vaccine could just upset his system even more.
Puppies start getting their distemper combo vaccines at 8-9 weeks. i'm shocked the breeder allowed the puppy to leave the house without having at least one vaccine... after the first vaccine, 2-3 distemper boosters are given.
