Animal Smiley 036 Alternative grains

Like so many of you, I am constantly evaluating new ways to get nutrient- dense food sources into my pups.
Recently, I have begun incorporating their diet with two nutrient dense grains that hold valuable vitamins and minerals: Quinoa and Amaranth.
These two are pseudo-grains that pack a nutrient punch for our pups.

Amaranth was cultivated widely by the Aztecs, and unlike other grains it is a complete protein. This means that it carries more lysine, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, magnesium than any of the other grains. Its protein content is around 12-17 percent, and it also carries vitamin C and beta carotene.

Quinoa (one of my favorites), is higher in unsaturated fats, lower in carbs, and also a complete protein since it contains 8 essential amino acids. It also carries Vitamin E, iron, calcium and phosphorus.

Both can be purchased in whole grain and flour form.
Both are easily digested, and easy to make.
Both would be a great source of added protein for those of you whose pups are meat restricted.
So just a thought, next time, instead of using rice for the grain, try one of these.
Mine really seem to like them, especially when they are cooked in broth, and then added to lamb and vegees.
