I'm a professional poker player. I personally have been in your position many times Brit. I was studying pre-law during college when I discovered poker. As I started getting better at poker and making money, my grades fell to rock bottom and I was placed on academic dismissal. I have never had a full time job, so my only earnings have been gambling wins and paid gigs from sponsors or televised opportunities. Although poker has brought me lots of adventure, living life on a roller coaster is rough.
My boyfriend is the founder/CEO of a few companies here in San Francisco and because I have a lot of time on my hands, I help him organize his life, make sure things are running smoothly in the house and take care of all the finances (funny - he puts a gambler in charge of the finances!) I find it more gratifying to take care of the people I love rather than be consumed by poker.
At some point, I'd like to take classes, volunteer somewhere or even find a part-time job. But, in the meanwhile I just stay home, take care of my babies (my boyfriend and Kaia) and play poker. |
