This is exactly right. Pay attention to good behavior, ignore bad (well, undesirable) behavior. What a cute way to put it!!! It takes some time but it will work. Eventually you can work up to time outs too. Loki knows what a time out is (15 mins alone in his cage with a toy, but no attention) and if he does something I can say "Loki, do you want a time-out?" and he will totally stop. It's awesome. Oh, and you do have to hide the shoes. She should grow out of that! Also, if you do say NO! or startle her with a shake can or something to get her to stop climbing, make sure you do praise her when she stops.
