Mika had a real doggy smell when he arrived and the smell is caused by the mother licking/cleaning the pups since birth. I waited a few days and then gave him his 1st bath, that was fun, he ran around like a crazy dog after being rubbed down with a towel and he still does this and he is 7mths now.
