Destructive Chewing I have a major chewing problem with my 4 small dogs. They range in age from 1 year to 5 years. They have successfully eaten an entire dining room : 6 chairs ( all 24 legs ), including the 4 legs on the table. Now they are working on an antique piece of furniture!! Bitter Apple is a seasoning, Tabasco sauce makes them foam at the mouth, but they keep chewing. Scolding, yelling, screaming, and crying only provides them entertainment. It isn’t only wood that has been eaten. Any thread or carpet fringe will make them pull until there is nothing left. Handbags and shoes, cardboard boxes, tissues, paper towels have all been victims too. Stuffed toys are not only gutted, but entire limbs are consumed, providing some very interesting bowl movements. I have provided many chew toys and rawhide bones. Sometimes they will prop a bone on a chair leg to position the bone better. While doing so they proceed to chew the chair leg along with the bone. I don't always catch them in the act of destruction, so I don't know which dog did what. I have confined them to the kitchen and dining room because they destroyed the rest of the house and those rooms have been redone. I don’t know what is left for me to do. Any suggestions are welcome. Re-homing is not an option - I love them. Help!! |
