The best way to introduce the two is to take them for a long walk. I am talking 20 minutes to half an hour. If two dogs walk together, they accept that they are part of the same pack. Then, when they are nice and tired, simply walk them into the house.
Also, don't try to establish who is dominant between the dogs. They will sort out the pecking order on their own. Don't interfere when they are playing unless one dog is crying and the other won't let go. Usually, dogs will play and not realize that they are hurting the doggie until the doggie cries. Usually the dog will let go when the other one cries.
Schedule one-on-one time for each of them. Separate training classes or walks, whatever suits you.
If you see that there is tension and they are staring at each other, just get up and walk away. They will probably follow you and the tension will be gone.
Oh, and if the older dog growls and snaps at the new doggie, don't do anything! The older dog is teaching the new one what the rules are.
I recently did an article on adding a second dog, so this isn't my opinion, it is the opinion of a renowned dog behaviorist.
Good luck!
