Everyone here will probably freak...but you can muzzle him. You can easily make your own, then when he finds out it's not so awful and you're not going to hurt him...you can quit using it.
I did this with my Charlie, years ago. He was horrified about me clipping his nails, but he got over it after a while. He never bit me, but he threatened to. Above all, I wanted to avoid that ever happening.
They need to know that you're the boss and they can't ever win one of these arguments, IMO.
