I have brought in 4 puppies/dogs into the house with an older dog over the past 3 1/2 years, each at different times. What worked for me was just bringing the new one in and putting them with the others. I always supervised them and when no one was home to watch the newest one was crated. I never had any issues other than when one was getting attention the others would run over for attention to. They all adjusted fine to the new one and figured out their pecking order themselves. I have one real laid back who is the oldest and one who is the pack keader and the newest one is like the little she devil.
They do play rough at times and 2 pick on the laid back one but then 5 mintues later they are all snuggled up in a pile together. They say you should introduce them on neutral territory but most of mine were brought home at night in the winter so we just did it our way and it worked. The key is to supervise them and step in when necessary. |
