Standards are always being changed. Look at the original yorkie and how much the standard changed for it.
Not long ago the yorkie was accepted in the show ring with darker colors such as black and gold. They recently changed it to allow only blue and gold.

I think the cocker spaniel is a very good example. They started out allowing only certain colors. Now several colors are allowed to show, they are just shown in a different color category. Many other breeds started out the same way as well.

The yorkie's color standard might not change anytime soon but it is bound to change as younger generations are more acceptable of the colors and you start seeing more of these colors being registered and more breeders pushing to show them.
I bet way back then people never thought the yorkie would change to be 7lbs and under.
Yes standards do chang that is why a DQ was added to the yorkie standard preventing Parti's and other colors from entering the show ring. Also, in order to change a standard you have to be a "MEMBER"
of the parent club and in order to become a member you have to "ADHERE" to the code of conduct and code of ethics and "ABIDE" by the standard. Trust me changing the standard isn't easy as you may think.
You also have to have someone know you for at least 2 years before being accepted into the YTCA and if us "middle aged" people keep the standard as it should be and educate and teach those coming up what the standard is all about then we can keep the yorkie as is. There are over 200 members of the YTCA and trust me having Parti's or any other color yorkie being shown other than what the standard calls for you have a 100% committment to keep the standard as is. It's all about education!!!! I will always advocate what the standard calls for now and keep our Yorkshire Terriers true to the standard and fight for it
Please take no offense of those who breed Parti's as I love all dogs black, white, pink or purple but I will stand behind our Yorkshire Terrier standard as is!
