I think I'm still in the "school" mode of getting all sentimental in May. In my teaching career this month was my favorite and saddest at the same time because I was always an 8th grade sponsor. Even though I taught in a rural community, once those 8th graders were gone, I seldom saw them again because the chaotic, fun time of high school captured their time...as well it should.
Anyway, I'm not sure what triggered the sentimentality today...unless it's the fact that it's the month of good-byes and new beginnings. I've always been one of those who rushes into the future with eager anticipation but pauses to glance backward at the past with tears of sadness at leaving it behind.
If any of you happen to have children or grandchildren graduating this month or next, let me share one of my favorite quotes in case you need it (and of course, I have no idea who said it): "This is not the end. This is not even the beginning of the end. This is merely the end of the beginning."
LOL...If I had a dollar for every time I've said that or written it in a yearbook, I'd be recession-proof! |
