By spaying her before her first heat, you will eliminate her risk of ever getting mammary cancer. An unspayed female or one who has been spayed after her second heat has a 25% chance of getting mammary cancer when she gets older.

The odds of complications from her spay are much, much less. Just make sure you get pre op bloodwork to alert your vet to any conditions that might make her unable to handle anesthesia safely.
