i don't know if this would work for you, but i taught dex the command of "enough." "no" means that he is not allowed to do the thing ever, and enough means that he is doing too much of something that is okay. i learned this in obedience class with my parents/family dog. when dexter gets a little too rough (like with my best friends 10 week old poodle), i just say enough, and he clams down.
