I have been where you are now. My horse is my sanity at times, Cochise and I have been together for 24yrs and counting we have ridden a lot of miles together. I enjoy just getting out and riding in the woods by myself I call this my time. peaceful and quite end of a long day.
Cochise is now 28yrs old and though I have two other horses to ride I always saddle my old man and we go for shorter and slower rides these days.
as far as the expense goes you know in reality there really not that more expense then dogs, at least mine have not been, a lot of it you can do yourself, shots, wormers, etc.
