Lepto is transmitted mostly threw urine of infected animals. Stagnant water is a great place for it to lie. So if a wild animal that had this urinated in the yard there is a chance your GSD could have picked this up. Maybe from a rain puddle or something. Lepto can be treated. |
The vet did the tests, and it's def. kidney failure, she's trying to find what caused it. We know after reading up on it, there is no possible way it could be from lepto. They asked us if she could have gotten in to anti freeze, again, that is impossible. The 2 outside dogs have a huge dog run built behind the house. They get let out everyday to run but, when they do, Steve or myself are with them the whole time they're out. The whole back yard is fenced in, the only thing that can get in are squirrels, and in 22 years we have seen one deer, and that was before we ever had the fence up. The vet we have is really thorough and we really like her and know she will do everything possible for Lex
