You can train the dog for inside only, but when you do take him/her for walks, don't reprimand them for pottying outside though. I'm not saying you would, but I just don't want the dog thinking it's "bad" to go outside, then if you ever need the dog to go outside, it won't.
Anyways, when we first got Chip, he was entirely pee pad trained. Now that he's older and situations have changed, he uses his pad in the mornings (cause I'm usually in too much of a rush to get out of the door to work) and throughout the day while I'm gone, then after I get home from work, they go potty outside then about once or twice more outside before bed.
