I'm sorry to hear about the issue of the dog barking while you're staying with other people. That must be stressful for you.
Know what you mean about trying to be calm and assertive, as Cesar suggests. I also recall that he says it's very important for the dog to get a lot of exercise, to burn off some of that excess energy. That sometimes helps with Kasey - when we really tire her out.
That being said, we went to our new dog park (which we have been working to create) tonight, and she barked madly while running up and down along the fence separating the big and little dogs.... trying to intimidate the big dogs? Her tail wags, but she puts on a snarly face and races back and forth, yelling at them. Nothing I can say will stop her. But it sure did tire her out!!
