I always wash the area with hydrogen perioxide. Whenever Piper has had a tick removed the sore that is left behinds scabs quickly but she'll have a bump with the scab about the size of a pea for weeks. My male yorkie never had that kind of reaction. The sore scabbed, healed and that was it. There never was a bump left behind. My vet said that Piper gets an allergic reaction to the tick bite. I use frontline but ticks are still a big problem.
