Who has experience pyometra in one of their female dogs? Can you share your experience?

I think we are in the middle of this situation and am looking for information. (She is already at the vet being monitored/tested....she is in the very early stages....and the short delay in surgery decision is the need for her co-owner to be contacted/agree.)
