I remember reading somewhere that dogs circling is instinctual. They supposedly do it to flatten the grass or snow so they can lay down. The "fluffing" is probably the same things - trying to fluff the grass up a little for some padding. I also remember reading that dogs to dig and then lay in it because it's cooler. So - even though our doggies are spoiled rotten with beds and pillows and blankies, they are trying to get comfortable.
