The owners of these dogs were as horrified as we were when this happened. They are normally very friendly dogs and have never shown aggression before. Still, they should have not been able to run loose onto the road. They are paying all our vet bills, building a fence this weekend and posting a Beward of Dog sign at their driveway. It was unfortunate this happened at all, but it taught them a very important lesson about their dogs. Since the vet classified Rudy's injuries as bites, it was automatically reported to Animal Control. I believe that they are now required to muzzle both dogs the minute they leave their yard and keep them restrained at all times.
