Last Tuesday the weather was awesome, and hubby decided to take our little guys for a walk to the mailbox which is about 3 city blocks away. They were on their way home, when he stopped to talk to a neighbour. Out of nowhere, two large bloodhounds came running out of their unfenced yard that is surrounded by bushes, and attacked our dogs, which were both on leash.
All hubby saw was a blur of brown in the corner of his eye. Thankfully, our dogs were on a coupler and he was able to pull them off the ground up into his arms, but not before one of the bloodhounds snapped at our little Rudy. The owner of these dogs came out of her house at the same time they were attacking, and activated the shock collars that they were both wearing. Both of her dogs backed off and ran back into her yard, where she immediately put them in their kennel. She had only left them alone outside for a minute, to go and get them a treat.
I got home from work about 20 minutes later, to find a trembling terrified little dog, a hubby who was a basket case, and our little Toby ready to take on the world to protect them both. The vet found two puncture wounds, one just above Rudy's ribs on his left side, and one on his back about three inches above his tail. He has bruised ribs on the left side, and a possibly bruised kidney, but incredibly no serious injuries, he will be fine. Of course, he is sore and we are trying to keep him quiet, but other than that, he is almost back to his normal self already.
We are so incredibly lucky that this story has a happy ending, that hubby wasn't attacked, and that we still have both our little guys. We should have named him Lucky, though
