Our golden retriever is the same way.
She'll eat anything. The other day there was a frog, she loves frogs, well, I had to get them their fresh water, when I came back, she was chewing on the whole frog with white stuff coming out of her mouth, hubby said it was frog pee(OMG, thought I was going to heave right then). I've also seen her try and eat bees.
Give that little guy a hug for me, he is so darn precious
