I then looked it up on the internet. I am at work today and started really worrying after I received all of the post so I went home to check on him. He has not had any diarrhea since during the night. His poop has firmed back up but it is the color of the gum he ate. He was acting normal. I am still confused as what to do because now I have 2 vets telling me he will be ok. I am still a nervous wreck. The gum did contain xylitol and I'm not sure how much he ingested. If you are sure your dog ingested Xylitol - I'd get the liver checked IMMEDIATELY. Maybe he is okay, for whatever reasons, but liver failure can happen
over a short period of time after ingesting something that is toxic to the liver - so the symptoms you're seeing right now could be the least of it. You have no idea what is happening to the liver, inside, right now.
I think you should ask yourself how you might feel if in a few days he goes down hill and passes away and you didn't seek medical care beforehand - bc there is a chance that could happen and you should be aware of that....I'm really sorry to put it in those blunt terms, but this is how some poisonous situations unfold. We've seen it here before in a beloved member's dog who died after a few weeks, despite immediate care, after ingesting something poisonous.
I hope he ends up being just fine, but I wouldn't take the chance if it were my dog.
