We just went through this situation with Chopper...he ate gum with xylitol in it. We were lucky that we caught him in the act of eating it!! I got on the internet and saw the warnings then called my vet immediately. At first the vet didn't seem too concerned and said just to watch him and she would go look through her research and phone me back if she thought it was anything serious.

It was less than five minutes, and she called back to tell me to induce vomiting. Chopper ended up being fine, but we found out that he ate 3 pieces of gum which could have caused serious problems if he had digested it.

Do you have any idea how much gum was consumed? If it contained xylitol? Or when it was eaten? I would find the ingredient list for the gum and contact a new vet.
