I just thought of something...this breeder lives in Florida which has strict puppy lemon laws...regardless of what her contract says regarding health. Were a pet owner discover their dog was seriously ill...the buyer can recover the cost of the puppy and ALL vet expenses. |
The problem is that Florida law only covers illnesses for 14 days and congenital conditions for one year. It usually takes years for "genetic time bombs" to go off in poorly bred puppies.
My Lady is a perfect example. She was completely healthy for the first 4.5 years of her life. Then her genetic time bombs starting going off and she was diagnosed with one inherited condition after another (epilepsy, diabetes, hypothyroidism just to name a few). I now spend about $5,000 a year on medications and diabetic supplies alone. Add another $1,500 to that for vet bills.
Even you you have to walk away from a deposit, it will still be cheaper in the long run than buying a poorly bred puppy.
